    How to disable DNS\404 redirection!?

I uncheck the option in toolbar - not work.

I even uninstall the whole toolbar and oovoo itself - still not work!!

Everytime I type a wrong address I am taken to the stupid  "http://urlseek40.vmn.net/search.php" page!!!

    My FireFox is literally hijacked!!!

Why do you guys turn such a great application into a MALWARE !?

    I am really pissed off!

Could somebody tell me how to get rid of the DNS\404 redirection!?

    Hi Andrew777,

Try using spybot it's a freely downloadable program. It will remove spyware/malware infections from your browser.

    Just google spybot.

    Hi Andrew,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I am not sure I understand how this is related to ooVoo.  Does this happen in IE?

I think that Fortra is on the right path here. I would do a Spyware Scan and a Virus Scan too.

You could always uninstall and reinstall Firefox. For XP: START/CONTROL PANEL/ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS/ select MOZILLA FIREFOX and click "remove". For Vista: START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/ PROGRAMS AND FEATURES/ select Mozilla Firefox and Uninstall. Then download a fresh copy.

Let me know if this does the trick.

    Best Regards,

Re: How to disable DNS\404 redirection!?

I have the exact same problem too!!!  I upgraded to the new ooVoo and all of a sudden every time I type something that isn't a complete url into the location bar I get this: http://urlseek40.vmn.net/search.php?lg=en&type=dns&tbn=oovoo2_0dn&q=starbucks [so as an example that was when I was trying to reach the starbucks website]  Normally if I just type in "starbucks" into the url bar it automatically redirects me to www.starbucks.com.  This is definitely not a firefox problem (definitely an ooVoo one) because 1. it says "oovoo" in the url that i posted above and 2. I've restarted firefox in "safe mode" which disables all the add-ons and I still have this problem.  Also, I've already uninstalled ooVoo AND ooVoo toolbar, but the problem still persists.  How can this be fixed?!?!?!?!  This is REALLY annoying and I can't believe ooVoo would bundle such a ridiculous toolbar into its application without giving us the option to not have it!  By the way, I have customized Firefox to the point where it would take me HOURS to re-install all of my personalization settings/etc if i uninstall/reinstalled it.

Re: How to disable DNS\404 redirection!?

Prior to installing oovoo, no matter which browser your using. Browsing some website on the net can cause your browser to get infected with spyware, malware etc.

Install spybot and run it to scan your system for those infected browser malware, spyware problems. What spybot does is to protect your browser system files from being infected (changed or altered) by various sites that appear on the internet. Installing and Un-installing won't cure the problem.

As for the oovoo tool bar, there is an option when you install oovoo client to turn that feature off. It ASK you if you want to install it YES or NO obviously select NO.

    Hi Andrew and Margaret,

We have been able to recreate this problem in the lab and have forwarded it to our developers for a fix.

    "Did this relate to ooVoo?"
Yes, I tried to install ooVoo on a fresh new machine.
The problem shown up immediately after I installed ooVoo.

I believe this is a so called "DNS error 404 redirection hijack" usually done by a toolbar malware for browser.
But I did choose "Don't install ooVoo toolbar" when installing it.

I tried all anti-spyware I could find such as AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy and etc.
None of them ever found a spyware.
I must say to a spyware it does pretty damn good!!!

I tried to find all registry and files containing "ooVoo" and this still doesn't help.

I can't believe you suggest uninstall FireFox as a solution...?
Yes that was just what I did to solve the problem before you suggest it.
Yes this fixes the problem. And I need to spend hours to restore my FireForx settings and PlugIn.
I know a tool called MozBackup. However I can't use it because if I backup and restore my settings the problem is back!

I made a forum account just to tell you guys how to undo it. It's really simple and they would fix it if they weren't making money from it.

In your Firefox address bar type about:config

The variable you are looking for it called browser.search.defaulturl so do a search for that or just search for oovoo.

Right click that and click modify then if you want it back to the default put in http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=

    Thanks, Trance

This seems to work well! In my case, the variable I found it under was "keyword.url",  so I recommend searching for the word "oovoo".

    Thanks again and Best Regards,

This is absolutely ridicolous! I can't believe that someone sugessted reinstalling firefox and have yet not fixed this major problem in the software even though it has been more than one month since the problem was reported.

Yes, it did. But aren't you supposed to have your software fixed by now, instead of relying on a firefox fix?
